Virginia (Virgie) Castillo

Born in the coastal town of La Ceiba, Honduras, Virginia Castillo (Virgie) absorbed the vibrant and diverse culture of the Caribbean from an early age. Completely self-taught, she has cultivated a unique artistic style over the years. Her work often reflects the everyday scenes of her world, capturing familiar faces, local houses, and the neighborhoods (barrio) of the North Coast and Bay Islands of Honduras, all brought to life in vivid colors.

Virgie works with whatever materials and mediums are available, including mixed media, needlework, acrylics, watercolors, oils, dyes, and ink. Yet, one constant in her art is her unwavering source of inspiration: the quiet strength of her island "sisters." As she explains, "I simply look out the window and paint what I see."
